The inspection process.

Requesting a time does not confirm a booking. We’ll confirm your drop-off and estimated collection time by text or phone. Please wait for confirmation before bringing your vehicle in.

1

Send an enquiry

Provide your vehicle details and choose Tuesday–Friday at 10 am or 12 pm for drop-off. We’ll check availability before confirming your booking and estimated collection time. We’ll usually confirm within 15 minutes, including evenings and weekends. Overnight enquiries are answered the next morning.

2

Drop off your vehicle

Bring the vehicle at the confirmed time and your driver licence for us to sight. For any vehicle not currently registered in Victoria, also bring paperwork showing you own it. Pay cash or card at the workshop. The appointment is a drop-off time, rather than a while-you-wait inspection.

3

Collect after our text

Inspections usually take 2–3 hours from drop-off. We’ll give you an estimated collection time when we confirm your booking. We’ll text when your vehicle is ready, including if it is ready earlier, and contact you if the estimate changes. Please wait for our ready-for-collection message before coming in. If it passes, the tester issues the certificate. If it fails, you receive a report identifying the items that require attention.

Victorian requirements: Transport Victoria roadworthy guide ↗

How much is a car roadworthy inspection in Moorabbin?

At Brighton Service Centre, a standard car roadworthy inspection is $308 including GST ($280 plus GST). A 4×4 or wagon inspection is $352 including GST ($320 plus GST). These are inspection fees; repairs are additional and a pass is not guaranteed.

Do you inspect 4×4s and wagons?

Yes. Our 4×4 and wagon roadworthy inspection fee is $352 including GST. Tell us the make, model, year and any modifications when enquiring. Electric and hybrid cars are not accepted. Cars must be petrol or diesel. Contact us first about imported or unusual vehicles so we can confirm testing scope.

Can you inspect a modified car?

Modified cars can be assessed. Describe the modifications in your enquiry and bring relevant engineering or modification approval documents. Acceptance for assessment does not guarantee a pass or approval of the modifications.

Where is Brighton Service Centre?

Our workshop is at Factory 2 / 12 Joel Court, Moorabbin VIC 3189. Inspections are carried out at the workshop. Call 03 9592 3681 if you need directions or want to discuss your vehicle before enquiring.

When do I need a roadworthy certificate in Victoria?

A roadworthy certificate is generally needed when selling or re-registering a vehicle, or clearing certain defect notices. Exemptions can apply. Check the current requirements with VicRoads or Transport Victoria for your transaction. A roadworthy inspection is a safety inspection, not a comprehensive mechanical condition report.

What drop-off times can I request?

For the first few weeks, bookings are available Tuesday–Friday with 10 am or 12 pm drop-off only. All requests need workshop confirmation. Inspections usually take 2–3 hours; repairs, rechecks or issues found may take longer. Wait for our text or call before bringing your vehicle in.

What happens if my vehicle fails the inspection?

You receive a report identifying the items that need attention. Repairs are quoted separately and require your approval; you can choose your repairer. The vehicle needs to be rechecked within 14 days, otherwise a new full inspection is required. Our motorcycle and scooter price includes one recheck within 14 days. Confirm car recheck terms with the workshop.

How long is a Victorian roadworthy certificate valid?

A Victorian roadworthy certificate is current for 30 days from issue. It reflects the vehicle’s condition at the inspection and does not guarantee future condition or mechanical reliability.

Do you inspect electric or hybrid cars?

No. We do not offer roadworthy inspections for electric or hybrid cars, including plug-in hybrids. Our car service is for petrol and diesel vehicles. Motorcycles and scooters must be unmodified, stock-standard petrol vehicles.

Can I pay cash or card?

Yes. Pay by cash or card at the workshop and receive a receipt. No online payment is required when you send an enquiry. Repairs, if needed, are quoted separately.

Do you offer trade pricing for multiple vehicles?

Trade pricing is available for multiple cars, motorcycles or scooters. Contact the workshop with the vehicle types, quantities and timing for a quote. Motorcycle and scooter eligibility still applies.

What documents should I bring to the inspection?

Bring your driver licence so we can sight it in person for every inspection. If the vehicle is not currently registered in Victoria, including if it is unregistered, also bring paperwork showing you own it. Provide the VIN in your enquiry if you can find it; you can still enquire without it. For modified cars, bring any relevant modification or engineering approval documents.

What details should I include in my enquiry?

For every vehicle, provide a contact name, email and phone number, plus the vehicle owner’s full name and address, plus the driver licence details of the person presenting the vehicle for inspection. Include the vehicle type, make, model, year and preferred drop-off day and time. Registered vehicles need the registration number. For unregistered vehicles, include a VIN or chassis number if available. For interstate-registered vehicles, include the VIN if you can find it. For any vehicle not currently registered in Victoria, including an unregistered vehicle, bring paperwork showing you own it. VIN, chassis and engine numbers are optional on this enquiry form. Bring your driver licence to be sighted at every inspection. Describe car modifications and tell us about motorcycle or scooter drum brakes. If you need help locating the numbers, let the workshop know.

Can I request an inspection for today?

Yes, if today is Tuesday–Friday and a 10 am or 12 pm drop-off is still ahead. Availability must be confirmed by the workshop. Call 03 9592 3681 before bringing your vehicle in. We are not taking Monday or weekend bookings during this initial period.

When will my vehicle be ready for collection?

Inspections usually take 2–3 hours from drop-off, but this is an estimate. We’ll agree an estimated collection time when confirming your booking. Drop-off time is not the inspection start time. We’ll text when your vehicle is ready, including if it is ready earlier, and contact you if the estimate changes. Please wait for that message before collecting. Repairs and rechecks may take additional time.

What if I need to change or cancel my drop-off?

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice where possible. If you need to change your appointment sooner, call 03 9592 3681. No online payment is taken when you enquire.
